8th April 2026 By Mark

We have been very busy over this month, Ben Hamill from (Willowfield Parish in Belfast) has been with us most days and is enjoying Khmer life.  Only hiccup was that one of children decided it would be a good idea to take Ben’s glasses and throw them out the window 3 story’s up, we are however grateful to God that the swamp below the window had been filled in recently so he didn’t have to put wellies on and go digging in the swamp to find them.  If they had, we had decided it would be better in that case to send him to the opticians to get him a new pair.

We also had our good friends George and Carolyn visit.  The children gave them a very warm welcome and took their hands to guide them to their seats.  The older children then danced and sang for them, then it was time for George and Carolyn to join in with a game of musical chairs – the children won of course.

Mark and I went for a few days to Siem Reap with George and Carolyn while they went to see the Temples and did the tourist thing.  We really enjoyed sharing our beloved Cambodia with them.

While there, Mark and I went to a cheap restaurant in Siem Reap to try it and on the menu was steamed crocodile tail, head or leg.   We passed on them and ate something we knew.

Our grandson, Christian loves Pokémon so much, I had to get him a picture of the car I see on my way home outside a school.  He said to me, grandma the real Pokémon must live in Cambodia.

Sokheng and I had a meeting to handover and talk about her leaving daycare.

It’s really sad that she is going, but we know she needs to be with her husband in America, and we wish her God’s richest blessing as she starts this new journey in her life.  Her last day was 31 March.  We are now starting to look for a replacement, but she is going to be hard to replace.  While we were at the coffee shop we saw this sign, very confusing!!!

On Sokheng’s last day we had a presentation of flowers from the Cambodian Board, a letter read out from the NI Board and a presentation of photos showing what Sokheng has achieved during all her years with us.  The children had cake and ice-cream.  We had a staff dinner after Sokheng’s last day, at which I tried chicken feet for the first and last time!!

Sokheng’s favourite bible verse is Matt 19 v 26, “with man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible”.

We prayed that a lot when she was applying for her visa, so now we pray for all the other things that through God are possible.   Please join us in praying for her and her husband Philip.

Until next time, God bless you.

Liz and Mark
