I have made good headway this month in booking speaking engagements when I am home in September. I only have a few dates left, so if you would like to book a speaking engagement, please contact me as soon as possible. Info@eggshellcambodia.com. I will send out a list of where I am speaking in a future newsletter.
Sokheng was recently attended a Ministry meeting, her first with the Ministry of Social Affairs, Veterans and Youth. She represented Eggshell Cambodia/Child Haven in such a professional way. Well done, Sokheng.
I am showing the staff how to make jelly, (sugar free of course) so they can make it while I am away. The children love it and look forward to Fridays when they get it as a treat. I probably have enough to do until I get home in September and then I will buy more.
Sokheng and I have been crocheting small things to put on key-rings and hair-clips for me to sell when I am home, I think they have turned out really nice, we will see who wants to them.
The children of the village were so excited last week as the rain brought little fish out of the pond and unto the concrete road, they were collecting them in buckets. The families would eat well with this blessing.
You do see random things within the village; I have no idea how this bath got into the pond beside daycare or who would have had a bath in the first place (not many homes would have hot water)!!
Last week I came into daycare and noticed a space outside, someone had disconnected and stolen our water pump! It is used to pump the water up to the upper floors, so we had no water for 4 days until we got a new one installed and the staff were carrying water in buckets up and down the stairs.
When Sokheng spoke to our landlord about it, he said to her, “oh! my dog was barking very loud on Sunday evening around 1am, but I though he just wanted out to have s*x, so I didn’t get up!!!
A local villager erected a brick box around our new one and put a lid with an alarm lock to stop this happening again. The first night of the new box, a cat sat on it and set the alarm off, oh dear! At least the landlord next door will get up this time!
The children are all doing well at their studies and enjoying daycare, we have had quite a few off with colds etc. and one who is off a lot due to lung problems. They are starting to practice for graduation which will happen near the end of the year.
We have three graduating this year – since we began, we have had over 60 children through our books, this amazing as most come to us for 2-4 years and we thank God for you that we are still able to provide a safe place for these children and have such a positive impact on them and their families. Praise God!
Next month the staff will be having 2 days training with a wonderful charity from Australia. They give up them time to come and teach the staff and other staff from NGO’s, various coping mechanisms dealing with difficult children, new teaching methods and spending time listening and praying with them. The staff really value this as life can be very difficult for them outside work, so the teaching can help them cope with life in general as well as work. Thank you Reech Cambodia.
Mark and I are working hard to ensure everyone is shown how much they are valued and loved both here in Cambodia and by our donors elsewhere. Please continue to pray for them.
When I saw the little fish in the buckets, I am reminded of God’s provision and that even in the worst of the storm he is working for our good.
Until next time
Liz and Mark…
