13th August 2024 By Mark

Here we are in August, it is true what they say that times flies by the older you get?
Mark had his 64th birthday at the start of the month, the Khmer say he is handsome and strong for his age, but then I have said that since I met him at 17 years old lol.

We had a night out with our friends to celebrate or commiserate with him which was nice.

This month has been one of children needing doctors.  One little boy burnt his leg on a moto and then the following day a dog bit him in the same place.  With his family being in poverty they could not afford to take him to the doctor.  A kind donor paid for him to go, and he is now receiving rabies shots and treatment for his burn.

Another child has an abscess on his tooth and another little girl (1 ½ years old) was bitten (we think by ants) in her private area, and we had to send her to the doctor to get meds to ease her distress.   A further little boy has had a runny tummy for the last six weeks.  Lastly, we had two brothers who ended up in hospital at the same time with Dengue Fever, what a month!!

We had a huge storm last night, the rain in some areas was up to your waist.  I lay in bed thinking and praying about our children and asking God to keep the flooding out of their homes.  It really upsets me to think of them living in a home filled with water and mosquitoes that can make them sick.

My trip to the UK, dates and venues.

I’m up for a coffee please get in touch with me.   If not, I hope to see you at one of the venues.

I am looking forward to getting back to NI and Scotland and share a little more about day care.  I also am looking forward to seeing as many of you as I can.
It is a long journey to NI so can you pray that I sleep well on the flights.  The main one is from Singapore to Manchester (13 hours), I have a  5 hour wait in Singapore perhaps my crochet will while away the time for me.

Unfortunately, Sokheng will not be with me this trip, she is very busy preparing everything for the children’s graduation which will happen when I return to Cambodia.  We have 8 children graduating this year and already have three children’s families looking for a place.  We will have no problems filling our 8 places, it is a matter of who is to get priority.

Driving home from day-care is always interesting to me, so many things to see.   I noticed a delivery guy on a moto with a tiny umbrella covering his phone, which looked very cute and practical during rainy season.

The Bible study group continue to learn about Jesus and the Bible.  They like to make  things, so they first do crafts,  they made this for me out of flowers.  I was so amazed at how it looked, and it smelt fantastic.
.
God is continuing to show us his amazing love for the Khmer people in ways we do not expect.  We have people we know that have been through very difficult situations, and God is right there with them.  We have a Khmer friend who’s 14 year old niece was killed 2 weeks ago crushed between two cars on her moto.  Her friend who was on the back is in a coma.  We told our friend that we were praying for her family but also for the family of the second girl that she will wake up and that Jesus heals her.  We are asking for Jesus to do this miracle and for our friend to turn to Jesus through our prayers.
.
We will end here for this month, again we thank you for your support and I (Liz) am looking forward to sharing more in a few weeks.
.
Until next time.   God bless…
Liz and Mark x
