31st January 2026 By Mark

Happy New Year Everyone, may it be a blessed year full of God’s grace.   This is the first New Year for us in 2026; we will have two more out here.

New year for us was quiet, due to the tension on the border of Cambodia and Thailand, it was decided to not have fireworks in Cambodia to see the new year in, we did however go to the Wild Rover as it is owned by a guy from Portstewart and I got a packet of Tayto Cheese n Onion.  It cost Mark $3 but it was worth it to see my smiley face.

We have had a very cool December and early January, with temperatures down to 16 degrees at night, I had to use a blanket to stay warm.

The bananas I talked about in the last newsletter, I did get some, they were really big and very tasty.

Adam our son had a busy start to the new year, he had the ground-breaking ceremony for the plastic recycling factory which is being built up around 2 hours from Phnom Penh.  We are praying that this blessing will bring jobs along with prosperity to the poorest in that area.

On a lighter side, I have discovered that Tim Horton has a sister in living in Cambodia and if you need a swimming pool in a hurry, just hail the guy with them on his moto.

I’ve just celebrated (or not) my 65th birthday, I am not sure how I feel about this but I can’t cancel it, so I will have to suck it up!!

The children are all doing well, they are now bringing me a chair when I go to see them, maybe that is why I don’t know how I feel about this birthday!!!  They all got new fake crocs for Christmas, and I smile each morning seeing them all on the shoe rack.

One of our staff left us at the end of the year, we will miss her, but she had a need to leave the village and go away – we started a new employee on 5thJanuary.  She is from the village, aged 18 and can speak good English, her brother was one of our children, so the circle of life goes on.

Mark and I are excited as very good friends are coming out to visit us at the end of February.  We are looking forward to spending time with them and showing them our children and a little of our beloved Cambodia.

Anyway, need to go, things to do, children to see.

God bless until next time.

Liz and Mark
